We here at FMWOB have been grooving on Kiva.org ever since we heard them give a talk at the Community Next Conference in San Fransisco last February. I just happened by their site tonight and discovered some wonderful news.
Every time I visited the site in the past their directories were filled with at least 20 + different projects ranging from $400 - a few grand. Because of recent publicity they have been able to fund every single hosted project in their directory. Of course this leaves them scrambling for new projects to cash in on the recent increase in traffic but this is one of those good problems.
For those who don’t know Kiva.org is a company that helps business owners in under priledged countries raise money for loans from other users all over the world.
Here’s a bit from their “About Us” page:
Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in the developing world. By choosing a business on Kiva.org, you can “sponsor a business” and help the world’s working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the business you’ve sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back.

Filmmakers Without Borders is an initiative by FilmRiot to encourage film making in regions where it is currently restricted due to political forces, economic forces, or technological forces.
